Coconut Flakes, Sweetened

ORAC Value:

The antioxidant value of Coconut Flakes, Sweetened described in ORAC units is: 90 μ mol TE/100g.

The antioxidant content of coconut flakes was calculated using a generic store brand as well as a name brand, both of which were procured from the United States. The ORAC value of each were identical.

The testing was done using sweetened flakes, presumably, because most coconut flakes sold in the united states come in that form (unfortunately). However even if one were to look at coconut water or unsweetened coconut pulp, one can presume that even though it will likely have much higher amounts of antioxidants than sweetened flakes, it will still be relatively low compared to many other fruits and vegetables. Why? Because coconuts do not contain much antioxidant contents. In order to obtain a significant amount from them, a very high amount (and high calorie amount) would need to be consumed, as is the case with coconut oil.
