Oil as well as other products derived from coconut have gained increasing popularity over the last decade due trends such as the paleo diet. Does coconut oil contain cholesterol? Nope, since it's from a plant there is zero! What it does contain are nutrients such as lauric acid, vitamin E, and medium-chain fatty acids. However when it comes to the amount of antioxidants in processed or virgin coconut oil, it isn't much. This is especially true when you consider that 100 grams (the amount reflected in the ORAC test) would be the equivalent of 862 calories, which is even a bit higher than most other oils. Worse yet, it would give you a clotting dosage of 87 grams of saturated fat, which is over 400% of your daily recommended allowance. Therefore, use this oil in moderation!
