Does tilapia have DHA, EPA, and omega 3 fatty acids? The answer isn't clear cut. What the fish eats can very much affect how much (or how little) omega 3 it has. Not surprisingly, farm raised fish are often fed the cheapest foods possible, such as those derived from corn and soy. This can lead to the tilapia having a lot more omega 6, since they're getting little omega 3 from their diet. Wild caught tilapia do contain more of the 3's but with over harvesting, wild populations are quickly disappearing and therefore, it's an environmentally friendly way to eat fish. On average, expect to get 200 mg of omega 3 from a typical 4 ounce serving of the fish. Farm raised tilapia have less than 100 mg of EPA and DHA content. This may explain why their ORAC value (antioxidant content) is quite low, but the same can be said about almost all fish.
