Are there antioxidants present in papaya? Yes, but it's kind of like saying there's money in a piggy bank. There may be some in there, but not a lot on a relative basis. This ORAC value is one of the worst for fruits. Most of the papaya fruit's antioxidant activity comes from vitamin C, E, and carotenoids. Since it has a low total amount of phenolic compounds, not much is coming from other categories. This however is to be expected, since the most prevalent pattern of tropical fruits are being low in antioxidants and high in sugar content.
