How many antioxidants are in green tea? Not as many as you may think. Green tea might very well be one of the most over-hyped superfoods on the planet. Literally everyone associates green tea, especially the organic varieties, as being an excellent source of antioxidant content. It is true that they contain a fair amount. Though based on this 2010 test result from the USDA, the ORAC rating of green tea is actually below your run of the mill russet potato. In other words, you would get more antioxidants by eating 100 grams of a russet potato with skin than if you drank 100 grams of green tea as prepared per its standard instructions.

That being said, we do not know which brand of green tea was used, whether or not it was organic, or any other details on its preparation method. Undoubtedly, the amount of antioxidants in green tea will vary based on those factors but even if you were drinking a version which contained 2x the amount, it's still relatively low compared to many fruits and vegetables.
