Also known as the knotberry/knoutberry (in the UK), baked apple berry (in Canada) and low-bush salmonberry (in Alaska), this superfood is one of the hardest to get your hands on.
Where to buy cloudberries in the US? Even finding them for sale close to their native habitat can be a challenge. They grow in the boreal forests and arctic tundra regions, all of which are north of the United States, with the exception of Alaska. Cultivating proves difficult, which is why even in places like Norway, where they are quite popular, the berries sold are wild-harvested.A number of us at Superfoodly are major berry connoisseurs and spend thousands per year (each!) on wild and exotic berries, both dried and express shipped frozen. Unfortunately we have yet to find cloudberries for sale that are frozen or fresh in Southern California or elsewhere in the country. For now, we will have to stick with jam and jarred preserves of this delicious and healthy fruit.Botanically related to red raspberries, the orange cloudberry antioxidant content is slightly lower based on ORAC testing. However it has a different phenolic profile of more carotenoids and ellagitannins. The amount of vitamin C in cloudberries is roughly 15x higher than blueberries on an equal weight basis. For vitamin A, it's a 4-fold more.
