A perennial shrub from the Mediterranean region, the antioxidant properties of sage come from its phenolic compounds and polyphenols.Among sage's phenolic compounds is one which is not found anywhere else in the plant kingdom. Its two most potent are rosmarinic acid and luteolin-7-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside.
