All of the other sources named above have bad lectins (Avocado’s lectins are good), or tannins, phytates, protease inhibitors, and / or calcium oxalate. Also most or all of them aren’t complete proteins like Avocados are.

I’m an aging athlete, vegan, raw and organic. I soak all nuts, seeds, beans and legumes for 24hrs which gets rid of enzyme blockers, lectins, tannins, phytates, protease inhibitors, calcium oxalates , then I ferment them with a 34 strain probiotic for 24hrs before refrigerating them which gets rid of the rest of the lectins.

Lectins are what cause “Leaky Gut Syndrome” which is the root source of most ailments, most notably autoimmune disorders.

I don’t eat any grains, but the nuts, seeds, beans and legumes I mentioned are all high in (good) fats, yet I’m lean as can be. In my experience good fats don’t stick, you either burn them or pass them.

I was reading this because I need to increase my protein intake and saw the poison note. I wish someone would write something for people who need to gain some weight but are diabetic

Although I agree on the protein content, you can actually eat much more of it when cooked. Also, I heard the body absorbs much more of the iron when cooked, rather than raw. Maybe you’re thinking steam cooking it, which leaves it kind of bland, but try a whole baby spinach bag in a pan with cherry tomatos and a tbsp of butter. The spinach shrinks and tenders to a point that is pleasurable and easy to digest.

I would just like to add to the spinach part of the article with no disrespect intended. I was quite stunned when I realized a bag of spinach is 2 servings (baby spinach). Ever try to eat a half bag per person, even steamed/cooked? I can’t do it and I love spinach. So in reality a person may eat 1-2 cups of spinach which turns out to be a pretty insignificant amount of protein per day (3 cups = about 2g protein), but it’s still wonderful for you.
