Comments on: Which Curcumin Supplement Has The Best Absorption? https://superfoodly.com/best-turmeric-curcumin-supplement/ Tue, 16 Feb 2021 19:39:36 +0000 hourly 1 By: eric https://superfoodly.com/best-turmeric-curcumin-supplement/#comment-75024 Wed, 30 Dec 2020 20:54:59 +0000 https://superfoodly.com/?p=1041#comment-75024 You left one critical element out of your analysis. Actually two. The difference between curcumin and curcumin c3 and with respect to bioperine some formulations of C3 are 60 or 65:1…if you do the math im not sure if your winners stay winners that is to say that 500 mg of 65:1 curcumin C3 with 5 mg of bioperine may obliterate all your winners. i mention this since i havent tried your winners, but i religiously stand by that formulation. if u look at reviews for winners, the mention benefits after weeks. but the stuff i refer the effects are noticed anywhere from 1 to 5 days.

I tried all the curcumin formulations for sale in my local health foods stores. Even after trying Terry Naturally Curamin, it wasn’t until I tried the Terry Naturally Extra Strength Curamin that I noticed feeling better. This product includes BCM-95, a special boswellia, DLPA & nattokinase. [Note: consult your doctor before taking this, particularly if you take blood thinners. If the nattokinase is problematic, Terry Naturally (EuroPharma)sells a curcumin-only product, BosCur.] I read in Arthritis Today (maybe 2013?) that BCM-95 was more effective for rheumatoid arthritis (inflammatory, autoimmune) while Meriva was more effective for osteoarthritis (degenerative). On Feb.11, 2019, Pedro commented in this thread that he noticed the efficacy of boswellia. Maybe that’s why the Terry Naturally product worked for me. Maybe I will try the boswellia-only product, BosCur, next.
When I discovered the Terry Naturally Extra Strength Curamin, I was starting to eat an anti inflammatory diet, based on what worked for my lifestyle, after reading The Paleo Approach by Sarah Ballantyne, Ph.D. Over time (2 years?), things changed markedly. I was taking 2 capsules of the Terry Naturally Curamin (instead of the recommended 3) with no noticable change in how I felt.
So if you’re looking for a magic bullet, I recommend you first eat the cleanest diet you can manage. A good place to start is to avoid packaging and strive to eat food that LOOKS like food. The transition takes time for the brain to quit signaling cravings. It took me two years, for example, to quit craving pizza. For most of us, change doesn’t happen in an instant, but is a process.
Then try a bottle or two of the curcumin products that sound best targeted to your body’s unique needs. Let your body tell you which product to buy. If you feel better, follow that product. As your needs change, you can revisit the question or try out new products.
Also, we got where we are because of how we live(d). Don’t forget to ask yourself if you can improve your health in ways beyond taking the “right” supplement.
Sleep is crucial for health and recovery. I recently read that going to bed or getting up even as little as a half hour before or after your regular time can elevate blood pressure (temporarily, I assume).
Feed your soul in some way. Incorporate movement into your life. (Move Your DNA by Katy Bowman will help you see beyond exercise.) Allow time for yourself: Meditate or spend time in nature or create art or practice yoga or ….. Humans are social beings, so be involved in a community of some sort. Generosity often benefits the giver as much as the recipient. Marie Kondo’s decluttering advice to keep only what brings you joy can extend beyond household objects to social activities and people we include in our lives. In short, approach life holistically.

I congratulate the author of the article comparing the curcumin brands for his highlighting the pros & cons of each one, especially regarding the fact that most do not let us know if the absorbed formulation is free curcumin (which matters most) as opposed to unspecified total curcuminoids.
I agree with the author’s top choice of Longvida and I would to mention two more reasons for my choice of this brand, two reasons not discussed in the article. And for which I would like his opinion & comment.

Despite the limited & difficult to get valid scientific information I found that Longvida has these significant features:

1) it is absorbed through the lymphatic system, allowing wide body distribution before getting first pass in the liver.
2) it has a longer half-life than most other brands which may allow single daily capsule instead of 2 or more for the shorter half-life brands.

As far as I can find on Internet only one other brand approaches Longvida for bioavailability: Curcufen. However Curcufen is absorbed through the venous system and it appears to have a somewhat shorter half-life. This data can be seen in page 27, figure 7 graph comparing many brands to Longvida & Curcufen in this link:

https://aor.ca/magazine_issue/the-truth-about-curcumin/
(PDF download).

I would appreciate your comments as to whether or not the claims for Longvida & Curcufen are putting them at the top & do some newer brands compete in terms of free curcumin bioavailability, lymphatic absorption, longer half-life, lower side effects, etc..
Thanks in advance

Carl Withers, I’ve been searching for a liposomal recipe for Curcumin. Thank you so much for posting it. Would you mind telling me how many Vitamin C infusions you had please? I’ve been reading this in the hope of helping hubby who has Myeloma. Thanks

You missed one very important Turmeric product, probably because it was just introduced the fall of 2019.
It will most likely end up being at the top of the list of Turmeric products as research is showing. It is the Turmeric Dual Chamber Capsule from doTERRA. It is a capsule in a capsule….the inner capsule being turmeric extract (powder) and the outer capsule being Turmeric essential oil.
We had a conversation with the chief researcher at doTERRA.
He told us it’s always been a challenge unlocking the curcumin’s potential (as your article addressed). His research team decided to study Turmeric powder and Turmeric EO together.
After extensive research this combination demonstrated the ability to increase bioavailability dramatically. He said it “exceeded even our own expectations”- They have continued with their research as it has shown that this turmeric capsule is not only wonderful for inflammation but because of the high levels of Turmerones in the essential oil it also has the ability to support the regeneration necessary to improve neurologic challenges. Research soon to be published on the effects of Turmeric extract, Turmeric essential oil and their impact on brain health/memory loss.

Human pharmacokinetic (absorption) study, published in the European Journal of Nutrition, studies conducted in Australia, USA, and England. It’s also NutraIngredient and ESSNA (European Sports Science/Nutrition) Award winning..
New dispersion technology means only 10% excipient and 90% curcumin delivered..
Bioavailability beats Meriva, using 2 capsules, not 9!
